Trauma-Informed Schools Project

The Trauma-Informed Schools Project (TISP) is administered by the Coalition for Compassionate Schools. The TISP provides a framework designed to increase the capacity of school leadership teams and educator peer support teams to design and install trauma-informed multitiered systems of support (TI-MTSS) for students and educators. Our TI-MTSS framework, below, is designed based on our previous research on what makes a school trauma-informed.

The drivers of implementation throughout these key areas include:

  • Foundational trainings on the impacts of trauma on learning
  • Building community partnerships
  • Universal social, emotional, and behavior screening
  • Development of trauma stewardship plans
  • Crisis and response planning
  • Installation of safe and supportive classroom practices
  • Creation of peer support specialist teams to drive implementation
  • Incorporating family and community voice in the TI-MTSS process
  • Youth participatory action research
  • Intentional wellness planning
  • And more!

Each year, we welcome 2-3 schools to join our multi-year trauma-informed schools project. Schools are selected based on a number of criteria including:

Note: At this time, our Trauma-Informed Schools Project is only available to schools in the Greater New Orleans area. If you are outside of this area, check out information on our Targeted Implementation Support and Consultation programming!
